DEFINING TERMS

  • DENOTATION: The actual meaning of a word.
  • CONNOTATION: The way you have been conditioned to feel about a word, beyond its actual meaning. 
  • PAWN: Someone easily manipulated by anyone of authority.

Rule #1 in the Thug playbook: Thug want more and more and more.

But what about these other people, who get less and less and less? 

Step One: Anyone who comes to the attention of the Thug must be categorized. Thugs Label everything. It clears extra space in their brain in order to think more about themselves. Now entire people can be described with a single word. Some are SHEEP and CATTLE. Thug like eating those up. ARMY good. Thug use ARMY to subdue more SHEEP and CATTLE. All of Us are in there somewhere. Thug Labels are not too sophisticated. Where did you come from, how much do you own, what color are you, stuff like that.

When one word is used to describe someone, it moves them from being a person to being a thing. So much easier when it comes time to discriminate against them. Slaughter them. Enslave them. Imprison them. Deport them. Simply file them all under one Label, then hit the delete button. Done.

Some people do not like getting pushed around by the Thug. Mostly, this is not a problem. They are the ENEMY, and nobody likes the enemy. But sometimes the ENEMY starts to pop up among the SHEEP and CATTLE. Thugs cannot have any TROUBLE MAKERS in among the SHEEP and CATTLE, this often leads to concessions or compromise, and Thugs hate sharing. These “situations” require an extra step. 

Step Two: When speaking to the masses, Thugs begin to mention two different Labels in the same sentence, until We begin to associate the two together.  Peanut Butter and Jelly. POOR and LAZY. IMMIGRANT and RAPIST. MUSLIM and TERRORIST. Anyone who criticizes Capitalism is a COMMUNIST or a SOCIALIST, or at the very least, UNPATRIOTIC. 

Step Three: The Thug moves the one file, IMMIGRANT, into the other file, RAPIST, and begins to hit the delete button. Anyone who has a problem with this, the Thug repeats Step Two: you might become a SOCIALIST or a COMMUNIST too, or UNPATRIOTIC, or perhaps even ANTI-SEMITIC [All Thugs, wherever they reside, run the same playbook].

It is hard to not label someone. THUG. CAPITALIST. Some will claim We are painting all Capitalists with a one-word brush, in effect making us HYPOCRITES. In reality, though, a Capitalist is not actually even a person, it is simply a way of engaging with the world, a world that happens to be full of people, who the Capitalist chooses to commodify in order to fit into the Bottom Line on a Financial Spread Sheet. So remember: a person is not simply a CAPITALIST; a person can act like a Capitalist, or act like a Thug, or any number of things, but We need to choose our wording more carefully, as all of Us wish to be seen as more than a one-word label.

TAKEWAYS

When you are with someone, and they start talking shit about somebody else, do you ever wonder what they are saying about you when you’re not around? When someone in authority is doing it, perhaps ask yourself “what is this dude trying to sell me? Rapist is not mentioned alongside Immigrant in my online dictionary”.

DID YOU LET THAT THUG GET INSIDE YOUR GENES?

By the way, Spoiler Alert: We are all THUGS. We all carry the Thug gene inside of Us. So first, when trying to overcome our Enemies, We must overcome Ourselves first. When trying to know our Enemy, We must know Ourselves first. We need to take a break from constantly looking outward, and spend a little time getting to know the Thug right inside our own heads. It is valuable insight available 24 hours a day, meanwhile, We keep stumbling around, eyes wide shut, making the same mistakes over and over.

And yes, We are all CAPITALISTS, too. Because we allow Ourselves to partake in this arrangement, We are all accomplices in what Capitalism does to people or doesn’t do for people. And once We attempt to modify Capitalism, invariably those who benefit most from the current arrangement “as is” will start to whisper in Our ears; perhaps start to run the 3-step playbook. Please try not to be a PAWN. Don’t let anyone else tell you what your opinion is. If you don’t feel like reading a book about it, then simply have no opinion, that’s better than borrowing someone else’s. If you’ve read up and thought about your opinion, then you may have valuable feedback for the rest of Us. Reciting someone else’s “one-wordisms”, however, will immediately eliminate your voice from the conversation.
